Last Thurs Bella lost function in both her rear legs.We took her to a vet yesterday(we had an emergency and had to leave the state)&found out she has a ruptured disc. She's not getting blood flow to her spine. She can't potty when she wants. She's dragging herself around. He tested her & he uncurled her feet&had her put pressure on her feet and she cried. He gave us meds but said her quality of life is to be taken In consideration. As a second opinion,do you suggest we put her down if no improvement?

The decision to euthanize is a personal and difficult one. Without a physical exam, it is difficult to determine what the best course of action would be. In these cases, the sooner surgery is performed, the greater the chance of recovery. Consider an exam with an orthopedic specialist and/or a neurologist. Either may help you reach a decision. You can also consider a wheeled cart to help Bella get around. Your veterinarian can show you how to express Bella's bladder and keep her clean.
