Why can't my cat lie down after taking Doxycycline medication?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 11 months and 18 days old | 9 lbs

Giving my 11 month old cat Doxycycline 100 mg. Was just told that he cant lie down right after taking due to some effect to the brain. Is this a humans only caution or can it be for cats too? Thank you.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m not sure about side effects in humans but I don’t think anyone was worried about a concern with the brain. There is a concern if the medication gets stuck in Bailey’s throat and that may be why your vet said he can’t lie down. I recommend giving Bailey water after medicating him to help ensure the medication doesn’t stick in the throat. I hope this helps. Good luck and kisses to Bailey!
