My dog has shiny, mucus-filled diarrhea again. Could it be worms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 6 months old | 65 lbs

Hello! Misty is having diarrhea again. It is shiny and I believe it also has mucus in it. She had a violent session of diarrhea 3mo ago as well, I posted a question on that one a while back too. I’m worried she might have a worm in her. She used to be Heartworm+ but was treated and cured.. Anyways please help and thank you.

Poor Misty! Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.
