My dog vomits after eating. What should I do and is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 40 lbs

I have a 2 yr old American Bulldog that for the past week vomits a couple hours after he eats. Seems a little more laud back than usual but still plays etc. Drinks fine and bowel movements seem normal. Is this reason for serious concern?

Yes, it is concerning because it indicates Max is sick. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.
