Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 10 years old | 50 lbs
My dog just turned 10. She has never had any hip/leg injury. Yesterday we were playing on concrete, she went to make a dog juke/cut, and yelped. I thought she stepped on a piece of glass or something but no blood. Now I'm thinking it was a joint maybe hip. When googling, I read a lot about hip dysplasia, but didn't know if that would be something that happened suddenly. It almost seems like a sprained ankle for a human. Could hip dysplasia happen suddenly like that?

I am sorry to hear about Alex. IF she yelped and now is not bearing weight on a hind leg, the more common injury would be a torn cruciate ligament in the knee. Hip dysplasia is a chronic/ongoing/slowly progressing issue in most cases though it can be exacerbated by certain activiities. We can also have small fractures in toes and things occur, so this is also a possibility. If she is limping/painful I would recommend a visit to her veterinarian.
