My young kitten is vomiting and dry heaving. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Female | unspayed | 17 days old

Zelda was a cat we picked up off the street this morning. She was infested with fleas but otherwise seemed very healthy. However, at around one AM she began vomiting and has been doing so about once twenty minutes. She has (I think) started dry heaving. She didn't eat anything strange and otherwise seems healthy. I can not take her to the vet until morning. What can I do to help her? What might have caused it? (Her age is about 3-5 weeks, it's listed wrong on her profile.)

You cannot do anything at this time. Cats cannot really take over the counter medications and especially not a kitten this small. She really needs a vet ASAP so I would suggest an emergency clinic. That is your only option other than just waiting (which I don't recommend). If she was an adult, waiting might be OK.
