Why is my senior dog yelping, limping, and pressing his head?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Basset Hound | Male | neutered | 45 lbs

My basset hound, 11, was laying on me today and stood up and suddenly started yelping and whining for no reason and no is favoring his front right paw and walking slow and circling and pressing his head against my couch like he can't get comfortable. Is there a possibility something neurological and sudden happened to him?

I recommend to have Nixon examined by the veterinarian quickly. Those signs definitely sound neurological. It’s possible he had a stroke or has thrown a clot. Best to get him evaluated quickly. Best of luck.
