Is a third walk safe for my energetic puppy's developing joints?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 17 days old

I have 13 week old pug with lots of energy. I’ve been advised by a neighbour to limit walks to two a day for fear of damaging her joints, but she’s full of energy and I think would really like to take her for a 3rd. We’re normally out for around 20 minutes each time and I wait till she tells me she wants carrying home. Is it safe to increase to 3rd?

The best person to ask if this is OK is Gerty’s regular veterinarian. It is important that her joints are palpated prior to increasing the activity. If everything is normal, it is likely fine to increase to another 15 to 20 minute walk a day. In general low impact activities, assuming they are not excessively long, are fine and good for muscle development. It’s very important however to have this checked first. Best of luck.
