Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry to hear that Linkin is sneezing so much. It is not uncommon for kittens to be infected with feline herpesvirus, which causes upper respiratory signs such as sneezing, nasal and ocular discharge. Most flare ups of herpes are self-limiting, meaning cats will get over the infection on their own. However some cats benefit from nebulization, meaning you can keep Linkin the bathroom while the shower is running to see if the steam will help clear his sinuses. You can also consider purchasing L-lysine from chewy.com which is a supplement to help boost the immune system and help Linkin fight the infection. If his clinical signs become severe, he may require a visit to your veterinarian for antibiotics. I hope this is helpful!

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Molly! If the nasal discharge is thick, yellow or green then she likely does have a secondary bacterial infection. If that is the case she should be seen by your Vet to see if antibiotics are warranted. Feline Herpes can be a frustrating thing for cat owners and their cats. It can be a chronic infection or come and go with stress. There are many options to manage it but nothing cures it and not every medication combination works for every cat. During an outbreak oral anti-virals can be used (and as pulse therapy), cerenia saline drops can be used off label, L-lysine can help (500 mg twice daily), and occasional antibiotics as pulse therapy. https://www.petcoach.co/article/sneezing-and-feline-upper-respiratory-disease/ I wish Molly the best!

I am sorry to hear about Blizzard. Recent research is now showing that using a lysine supplement has little effect on these kitties with herpesvirus, so many of us are no longer recommending it. There are some companies that make it in a treat form if you wanted to try it in a different form for your kitty just in case. When he is having a flare up of nasal congestion you can try giving him a steam treatment a few times a day by placing him in your bathroom and running a hot shower to create a steam filled room and leaving him there for 10-15 minutes. Also putting a humidifier in his room at night may help. For the eyes, there are now topical anti-viral eye medications we can use. They are unfortunately not inexpensive. Most cats with this illness do live a normal length life, they just suffer from these frustrating flare-ups of illness. There are also oral anti-viral medications that can help these kitties, but if you have trouble medicating your cat this can be difficult to give. You can talk to your vet about getting the medications compounded at a special pharmacy to have kitty-friendly flavors added, or have them compounded into treat form, or in some cases some medications can be made into a transdermal gel where you apply the gel to the cat's ear and it is absorbed through the skin.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to PetCoach. Stupi may be having a flare up of a viral upper respiratory infection, such as herpesvirus. I recommend gently wiping away the eye and nasal discharge with a damp paper towel. You can also have Stupi stay in the bathroom while you shower to allow the steam to help clear her sinuses. You can also purchase a supplement called Viralys from chewy.com, which is a supplement that helps boost the immune system and can help cats overcome a viral upper respiratory infection. Here's a link to this supplement: https://www.chewy.com/vetoquinol-viralys-l-lysine-oral-gel/dp/102542?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=f&utm_content=Vetoquinol&utm_term=&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInaHN7cXO4gIVS9bACh0d8wUJEAQYASABEgI95fD_BwE I hope this is helpful!
