My cat has a weepy eye for 2 months. Should I take her to the vet now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 9 years and 5 months old | 7.5 lbs

My 9yr old indoor cat has had one weepy eye for about 2 months now. Should I take her to the vet or it is not worth the stress? She is otherwise behaving and looking normally and has basically had zero health issues.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry to hear Clover is having an eye issue. I would recommend having her evaluated by her regular veterinarian. Eye discharge like you are describing can be due to a variety of reasons, including allergies, a scratched cornea, an infection, or another underlying issue. I would recommend having her eye examined to determine what may be causing the discharge you are seeing, and if any treatment may be needed to help resolve it. Good luck!
