My new Persian cat isn't eating much. Is this normal in a new home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | unspayed | 1 year old | 5.28 lbs

Hey. I got an year old persian as gift from a friend. She has been with me for 5 days. The thing that worries me the most is that she eats too little. She usually nibbles at her cat food. I tried feeding her liver and boiled chicken mince but she barely ate them. She's eaten very little in these days and m getting worried. Any suggestions. P. S. Her stool although in small amounts, looks normal.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry to hear Cleo isn't eating well since coming to your house. Do you know what she was eating before you got her? Cats can have a transition period when they get to a new home, and ensuring that you are feeding her regular food may be beneficial. If she is being fed dry kibble, you could also try microwaving wet food, which can make it smell more enticing to cats. If she is continuing to not eat well, I would recommend having her evaluated by a veterinarian to determine if there is a medical issue which may be contributing to her lack of appetite. Good luck!
