Why is my dog eating more but not gaining weight and smells odd?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltipoo | Male | neutered | 7.4 lbs

My three year old maltipoo is eating more than usual and not gaining weight. He slso has a strange odor. He recently received his annual da2 shot along with a deworming shot. About 4 months ago he was examined and had a full blood panel and all was normal. We feed him My perfect pet along with a limited ingredient dry food.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry to hear Scruffy isn't gaining weight as you would expect. Has he had a fecal sample tested for exposure to intestinal parasites? If he hasn't, I would recommend having one evaluated. If his stool sample is negative, I would recommend having him evaluated by his regular veterinarian to have a thorough physical, and have a conversation about changing his diet, as it may not be working as well for him as we would hope. Good luck!
