My dog stepped in poison ivy. What should I do to keep him safe?

This does look like poison ivy. In many cases, a dog's haircoat or thick food pads prevent the dog from getting a rash from poison ivy though if their belly or bare skin touches the plant they can develop a rash. They can also get the oils from the plant on their fur and then the owners can pet the dog and end up with a rash from the oils. Bathing in a colloidal oatmeal shampoo can decrease this risk but if this is in your yard I would think about having it removed.
