My vet prescribed menthol cough syrup. Should I continue giving it?

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | unneutered | 10 years and 2 months old | 27 lbs

Read menthol is toxic to dog but vet prescribed cough syrup containing methol 2.5mg(photo attached).I've already fed it twice for 3&1/2days without knowing.Also restarted twice 1/2lasilactone 50mg on his advice.He is doing much better.Should I continue it?Vet said I can start doxycycline 100mg too if he doesn't get better.My ac wasnt working for 1&1/2 day he started panting bad.A day later coughing when got a cooler for him.I don't self medicate always go to the vet but they aren't very helpful.

Menthol can be toxic to the GI tract, causing stomach upset and intestinal irritation that may result in vomiting, lack of appetite, and/or diarrhea. However, the concentration is pretty small in this product. If you notice any of these symptoms , stop using the medication. If this was prescribed by your vet, continue using it as prescribed; however, if he is no longer coughing, you can ask your vet if its ok to discontinue it altogether as he may just not need it anymore.
