My dog ate thread and it's hanging out. What to do before the vet?

Echo got into a spool of thread and ate the entire 1/2 full spool and has thread hanging out of his butt... he doesn’t seem to be in any pain yet and has an appointment with his vet first thing in the morning. What can I do to not make it worse in the meantime/prevent his intestines from getting tangled? Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 11 months old | 12 lbs

Poor Echo! You did the right thing by making him a vet appointment tomorrow morning. In the meantime, don't pull on the dangling piece of thread, as this can cause further damage. I would suggest not feeding him after midnight tonight, in case your veterinarian needs to sedate him to safely remove the thread.
