Is my neutered dog's aggression normal when a female is in heat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 75 lbs

I have a 6 yr old male husky/shepherd mix that was neutered a moth ago. I have a female lab/husky mix that was not spayed. She is in heat. The male is very possessive, folliwing her everywhere. He is very sweet to my grandson, until he tried to pet the female. The male snapped at him and nipped him in the face. Is this normal behavoir towards a human that there is a bond with. He does it to noone else

Aggression is never a normal behavior. I am quite concerned Kato nipped your grandson in the face, and he could potentially do serious damage to your grandson. I would keep him away from your grandson for now, and I would have Kato seen by a vet to discuss a referral to a professional behavioral expert. Best of luck.
