Why is my male dog licking my female dog's privates? Is she in heat?

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Female | spayed | 5 months and 16 days old | 25 lbs

I noticed that lately my male dog has been licking me female dogs private’s a lot. Could this be a sign that she might go into her first heat wave soon or do you think he’s just being a dog?

Yes, she may be going into heat (it is a bit early) but she could also have a urinary tract infection or vaginitis. I suggest you have her checked by your vet. If you are not planning on breeding the dogs please have them fixed before they do end up breeding.

    Your other dog may have given Gracie a urinary tract infection. I recommend bringing Gracie to your veterinarian and have a urine sample done to check for an infection. If she has one she will need oral antibiotics. I would do your best to stop your male dog from licking her there. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
