My 10-year-old dog has a new lump on her eyelid. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Long Coat) | Female | spayed | 9 years and 7 months old | 7 lbs

My 10 year old Chihuahua has developed a lump on her right top eyelid, it appeared last week and originally had a speck of blood and a little scab so I bathed it assumed she had scratched it but the lump has remained. It doesn’t seem to cause her any discomfort but I’m worried it could be something serious?

Since it has come up suddenly, I would get it checked by your vet to be safe. Older dogs will develop skin tags and warts and that could be what this growth is, but it's better to have it checked soon and have it be nothing serious than wait.
