My cat's brother passed away. How can I help him grieve and cope?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 5 lbs

We are getting ready to let KJ cross that rainbow bridge. He's about 14 and his quality of life has been rapidly declining. But my question is about his younger cat brother. Since we adopted Snow, KJ and him have been inseparable and the most age difference is only a year. I'm worried about how Snow will change once his brother is gone. Anything we can do to help him grieve?

I am so very sorry you have to say goodbye to KJ. Some cats do grieve when their companions pass on. Make sure he keeps eating, give him lots of love and attention, playing with him frequently. This will help him, and when you are ready, you may eventually get him a companion. I hope this helps, and again, I'm sorry.
