How to stop my overweight cat from breaking into food containers?

How do I control my cats eating habits? He is very overwheight. I tried putting him on a diet it didn't work he opens the cabinets, knocks down shelves, chews threw containers just to get to the food I even tried to put the food in a cabinet with a child lock and he somehow managed to break it. He's not agressive he's just very determined to get his food whenever he pleases. What do I do? Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 22 lbs

Wow, that is a cat who is determined to eat! Can you put the food someplace up high he cannot reach? Or put it in a room where Tigga has no access to it? I'd also have him seen by a vet. An excessive appetite can have a medical cause like diabetes. I hope this helps!
