My cat had bladder crystals, now pees little with bloody stool. Worried?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | neutered | 4 years and 7 months old | 12 lbs

My cat just came back from the vet after staying 3 days there. He had crystals in his bladder and they told me to monitor him. He has been going to the litter box and he is urinating in little bits. But he defecated and there was a little blood. Should I be worried? They told me to take him to ER if he wasn’t urinating or if there was blood on his urine and so far there has been no blood there just a little blood on his feces. What should I do?

If he is urinating frequently but only small volumes I would be concerned that he may still be painful and may even become obstructed (more frequent but normal-large volumes are expected). The blood in the stool is likely from frequent straining. I would recommend getting him checked, especially if he is painful when being picked up or less active than normal
