Why is my dog vomiting solid food after recovering from parvo?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chow Chow | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 18 days old | 64 lbs

Hello‚my pup Chico has had parvo 3 weeks now (He was in the vet for 1 week). He is very energetic‚ he barks a lot and runs around a lot and He has an interest in food but Everytime we give him any type of solid food he vomits everytime. Even small amounts of easy to digest foods ( this started 4 days ago ). I am giving him his prescribed medication. I am asking‚ how long will the vomiting last? ‚ should I just keep feeding him liquids? And is he going to be alright?

Hello. This is very, very unusual. Once a parvo patient recovers, they continue to do well. And, I have never heard of a pup recovering from parvo needing medication for 3 weeks. If Chico had parvo 3 weeks ago, & just started vomiting 4 days ago, it has nothing to do with his previous illness. Something else is going on. Please contact your veterinarian, as he may need to modify whatever medication he prescribed. I hope Chico is back to normal very soon & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
