Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 13 years old | 7 lbs
My yorkie (name: Saturn), male, 13-14 years old, is coughing and breathing very heavily. Last weekend we brought a new puppy that we are fostering into our home and I am nervous he has given Saturn some sort of kennel cough. I have a video for reference if there is a way to send it. It sounds like he is in pain so I'm very nervous for him.

Saturn needs to see his veterinarian today. An increased respiratory effort is concerning for many things including heart failure, primary lung disease, cancer or pneumonia. While it is possible the puppy gave him something, it could also be coincidental. All of these conditions require treatment. The veterinarian will take a listen to heart chest and may recommend some radiographs to see the heart and lungs. when breathing is involved, it's always best to play it safe. I hope Saturn starts feeling better and please feel free to post any additional questions.
