Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 13 years and 3 months old

My cat been bitey the last few days. Mostly in play but recently my fiancee reached to pet him and Sake' tried taking a chunk out of him. It was a small nip and he immediately rolled on his back. He was fine a play later. I wondering if he overwhelmed as we got two new dressers and my fiancee's been sick (my cat cuddles people when thier sick)

Rolling on the back in cats is actually a defensive position rather than a submissive one, so it could be that Sake' was a bit startled or upset. If you've had a lot of changes in your home (the new furniture and an ill family member) that could definitely stress out a cat and cause some behavioral changes. Giving him a few days to settle in and relax may help. In some cases, sudden behavior changes can indicate an underlying illness or pain. If the behavioral changes don't settle back down or worsen, a vet visit to rule out any issues is always a good idea.
