Is it safe if my kittens eat cat litter with zeolite and baking soda?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 12 days old

I have three, 6 week old kittens. I Was wondering is Zeolite and Baking Soda are harmful if ingested? I bought a new type of cat litter because I couldn't find Yesterday's News soft pellets, so I settled for Exquisicat (pet smart brand) it says it's recycled paper, but I noticed after buying it that it has recycled paper, Zeolite and Baking soda. Now I'm afraid to use it, because the kittens are at that age where they eat small amounts of the litter and roll around in it constantly. Thank you!

I think this should be safe for your young kittens to use. They may be inquisitive at first about the new litter but they probably won’t ingest enough to cause an issue. Usually the biggest concern with ingesting litter is that it can cause a blockage if too much is eaten. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
