Pitbull leg lump after surgery, not bearing weight. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 2 years and 5 months old | 52 lbs

Hi! Our pitbull Kenya had a plate and screw removed from her back leg two weeks ago ( she had broken her leg in March). She still won't put weight on her leg and there's a large hard lump on her tibia bone. We are seeing her vet in three days but I want to make sure that I don't need to address this sooner. She doesn't appear to be in pain. She doesn't mind if I touch the lump. The lump appeared a week after the plate removal. Pics attached!

I suspect that lump is related to the plate removal but I do recommend to call your veterinarian. They may want to see her before three days. Sometimes pets don’t realize that the previously broken leg is fixed. Sometimes there is still residual pain. I recommend to discuss with your veterinarian if physical therapy would benefit Kenya. This will help to retrain her brain to use the leg as well as improve the musculature which will make it more stable. I hope this helps and best of luck.
