Dog has constant runny stools after moving. Is it stress colitis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog has come over to Ireland with me and it’s his 3rd week here. He’s had runny poos on and off. And the last day or so he has had runny poos constantly. I’ve not fed him since 5pm yesterday. I haven’t changed his food. I think I may be the water so I’ve changed it to bottle water. He’s just constantly having to go outside every couple of hours for a poo after not eating.

It is probably stress colitis. I suggest you give him one dose of Immodium (loperamide) if you can find it there. JUST ONE DOSE - no more; one 2mg tablet. Next, withhold all food for 8 hours to let his intestines rest. Nothing. Water is fine to have available at all times. After 8 hours, you can start feeding him small amounts of his regular food every few hours (instead of one or two larger meals he gets). Finally, if you can, get him a probiotic I would feed him that for the next 2 weeks minimum. It must be one made for dogs. No human products. Hope this helps. If you have more questions you can always opt for a private consultation where we can chat back and forth. That way you can ask as many questions as you'd like. Best wishes.
