What does a dog's salivary mucocele feel like: firm or soft?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Springer Spaniel | Female | unspayed | 5 years and 1 month old | 45 lbs

I think my dog has a salivary mucocele. It's a cyst-like lump under her left jaw... occurred overnight. Does thos sound right? I made a vet appointment but they cant get her in until late next week. Just wanted to know what a mucocele feels like? More on the firm or soft side?

Usually more soft inside as there is an obstruction and accumulation of saliva. Mucocele is very commonly confused with enlarged mandibular lymph nodes. In both cases I would recommend a check up earlier than late next week (ideally in the next 48hours).
