Why is my 9-month-old puppy limping on her front leg but still active?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 24 days old | 65 lbs

Kiba has developed a limp in past 2 days, all legs are fine no cuts and broken bones anywhere, just wondering if it’s just a pulled muscle or sprain or maybe she injured her spine? She’s eating fine, and still gets excited to go on walks and wants to play but limps with front left leg, I’ve felt, pulled, stretched it to see if she would give me some reaction but alas she didn’t. She is 9 months and is a Labrador-pit mix.

Since Kilba can't talk, only a physical exam will be able to determine the source of the lameness. Just like people, the pain/limping can be related to many causes including a ligament tears, soft tissue injury, a developmental abnormality or even a spinal issue. You may try strict rest for a few days (no walks, running, jumping or stairs). If Kilba does not improve, have her examined by the veterinarian. She may need radiographs and the doctor will determine this based on the exam. I hope she starts feeling better quickly.
