Is albendazole safe for my one-month-old kitten's deworming?

Can I use albendazole as a dewormer for my kitten? He is one month old. If it is yes then what is the dosage?

Albendazole is not commonly used in pets. For routine deworming, Pyrantel is a good option and will kill the common parasites of kittens (roundworms and hookworms). The dosages will be on the package or you can contact your veterinarian for assistance. You veterinarian also likely carries this product. I hope this helps.

my 1 month old kitten has fleas and tapeworms.can i give him albomar for tapeworms.
Cement is too young to have that product now, and albomar won't be effective for fleas (which can transmit tapeworm!). I would recommend to apply another product like Stronghold kittens for example (it will treat both). Ask your local veterinarian for a prescription. DVM Melanie, which panacur because the yellow box, that treats up to 10lbs, says it’s for dogs only, is it not safe to use for a 10 week old kitten?
Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. Panacur granules are not labeled for use in cats in the United States. It would be impossible to get a small enough dose measured out for a 1.5 pound kitten, therefore, it is not recommended. You can, however, use the Panacur liquid but that needs to be given once a day for 3-5 days in a row and is rather expensive. It can be purchased over the counter. Follow the dosing recommendations on the bottle. ( https://www.bestvetcare.com/panacur-oral-suspension-for-cats-and-dogs-pack-316.aspx ) It is better, and recommended, to give liquid PYRANTEL to kittens. You can also buy this over the counter. Follow dosing and frequency recommendations on the packaging but in general, the dose is 1.0mls per 10 pounds of body weight. You need to get a 1cc syringe and give 0.15mls right now as she is 1.5 pounds. You will need to increase the dosage each time as her weight will be increasing. Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I would not recommend the albendazole as it has cause a bone marrow toxicosis when used in cats. Very dangerous situation. The current thinking is to treat these cats with fenbendazole & a probiotic like Purina FortFlora or Proviable KP. Check with your vet about switching to the fenbendazole. Take care.

Yes, this product is safe and effective for many different types of worms. The dose depends on the size of the kitten and the size of the tablet. Usually, the packaging of the medication has a dose range on it. Otherwise, you may check on the manufacturers website for this information. With some products, the tablet will be too big to accurately cut down to the size needed for a kitten. If you are having this problem, then it's best to find a dewormer that is labeled for kittens.

Hello, thank you for your question. To ensure that your kitten is dewormed appropriately, you would have to be prescribed a product by your veterinarian. The most commonly used dewormer in kittens is called fenbendazole, and is given for a few cycles based on the life cycles of most intestinal parasites. There are other topical products that also do treat some intestinal parasites, however not all of these products are safe for kittens unless they are over a certain age. This should not be given to kittens. First off, it's labeled for dogs only, plus it's only safe in puppies at least six weeks of age. Do not give this again to the kittens, and have them checked out by a vet in the morning to make sure they are ok. In terms of deworming, it's safe for them to have Panacur. I hope this helps!

Tapeworms are killed by a medication called praziquantel, which is prescription only. A dewormer containing that can only be gotten at the vet. A great deworming medication is Drontal which kills tapeworms, roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms. OTC dewormers will only kill roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms. Personally I always recommend a deworming medication from the vet, as they are stronger and better than anything you get OTC. Drontal is safe and healthy for kittens. Bambi should get a dewormer now, and another in two weeks. After that she will need to be dewormed monthly until she is six months of age, and then every three months thereafter. It's perfectly safe to give them a deworming medication even if they don't have worms, it prevents them from occurring. I never recommend getting OTC flea and tick medications. Many brands of them, such as Hartz, are terrible products that do not work and can have serious side effects in cats. I personally recommend getting a fle

How much the kittens need to get of the Zentel depends on their weight. The dosing instructions should be on the bottle, and I would follow that. It is correct you need to deworming them every two weeks in the start. That is because it takes at least two dose of the medication given two weeks apart in order to kill all the worms. The first dose kills the adults present, while the second dose kills the ones that had no yet hatched at the time of the first treatment. I would give your kittens two doses two weeks apart, and then I would give it to them monthly until they are six months of age. After that, they can get it every three months. This is a dewormer labeled safe to use in dogs and cats. The salt in it is simply the vehicle the drug uses to allow it to be metabolized in the body. Therefore other salts can’t be compared to this one because they too are specially formulated for that particular drug to allow it to be metabolized. Albomar treats for several different intestinal parasites including roundworms, hookworms, and flukes. It is a standard dewormer and is just as effective as others on the market.
