My cat's eye is puffy, wet, and has brown gunk. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 14 lbs

The area around my cat’s eye looked a little puffy yesterday. He had a little crud that looked brownish just outside the outer corner but nothing else looked odd. Just now I noticed it looking extremely wet and glassy, as well as still swollen around. What could be going on? And I assume it’s time for a visit to the vet? He’s still eating, sleeping, drinking, and playing.

Yes, I think he should see a vet. Eyes are very delicate organs and can go from bad to worse quickly. If you would like to post again with a photo we can maybe help more but really, he needs to the vet to check the eye with an ophthalmoscope.
