Should I get a new puppy to help my dog with a cross-country move?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 5 years and 2 months old | 21.8 lbs

Hey! I have a 5 year old Shih Tzu (male) that loves ALL things. We are moving cross-country in July, so I was considering a new puppy to help in the transition. Is this a good idea? Thanks!

I don't think so with the move. Moving is very stressful, and even though Fynn loves all things, adding a new puppy in will be stressful to him as well. So that's double the stress. I would wait until after he is settled in his new home before getting another puppy. I hope this helps!
