My dog can't walk. What pain medicine can I give her right now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 5 years and 6 months old | 80 lbs

My dog Bella randomly was unable to move her back legs and walk around. I'm about to leave for vacation, what kind of pain medicine can i have the pet sitter give her until I return in three days? I'll be taking her to a vet when I get back. She will not eat much or drink much.

Unfortunately none. There are no safe OTC pain medications for dogs. Many human ones are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. See if you can take Bella into an ER vet now to get pain medication, I do not think this can wait.

Poor pup! Unfortunately, there are no OTC pain medications you can give her. Many are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. Rest her tonight. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to potty on a leash only, and bring her right back in when she's done. Definitely have her see a vet tomorrow. Best of luck.
