My dog is shaking, yelping, and won't move. Is he suddenly in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 10 months old | 13 lbs

My dog is acting weird but was fine yesterday. He was shaking and didn't want to move from whatever position he was in. He will be happy to see me, but doesn't jump from his usual position or try to follow me inside anymore. He yelped a few times but I don't know why. We decided to see what he would do if we let him lose in the front yard and he was so happy he went running. It doesn't seem like he's hurt. He just isn't normally like this. What is going on with him?

It sounds like Meatloaf is in pain. Not wanting to move and shaking can be a sign of it. I would keep an eye on him tonight, and if he's still acting this way in the morning, have him seen by a vet.
