My dog has a deep wound, other dog licking. Can he wait for vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 5 years and 3 months old | 6 lbs

This has randomly popped up on my dog. I have 2 dogs and the other dog is what drew my attention to it because the other dog was licking it. And it’s just getting worse. The hole wasn’t there yesterday, but is there today. It seems to be getting worse, but I cannot afford to take to a vet toll saturday. Will he make it till then? I know you can’t say for certain yes or no but some kind of advice would be nice

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Reese. I definitely recommend that he sees a veterinarian this weekend when you are able. He appears to a deep wound. He will likely need the hair shaved around the area to better investigate the opening. Oral antibiotics and a cleansing solution will likely be needed as well. In the meantime, place an E-collar on him so that he does not lick the area. Any time the dogs are unsupervised, they will need to be kept separate. The dog other licking the wound will make it worse. Be sure to keep the area clean and dry. I hope this information helps!
