Why did my dog have a seizure after bladder stone surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

We got a 4 year old Shih Tzu on May 1. May 2 took him to vet & he had a bladder infection. Started meds for 12 days- did not work- had culture & it showed ecoli infection- xrays & it showed large skittle size stone & other smaller stones. Had a cystotomy - he had a great 1st night-next day catheter was removed & he peed throughout the day. We got him that evening-he pooped & peed it was clear &little blood. Had a seizure 3days later & we had to put him down-he didn’t lick sutures but it was red

Wow, I’m so sorry this happened. The seizure was likely nothing related to the surgery itself. It’s possible it was a delayed reaction from the anesthesia but three days later seems suspicious. He most likely had an underlying condition that predisposed him to seizures which nobody could have predicted. I’m very, very sorry this happened. My condolences.
