What is this bump on my dog's nose that he keeps rubbing and licking?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 5 days old

I’ve recently took my dog to the vet, was told that as of right now, I should wait one month and see if this bump on my dog grows. However, I’m growing worried, mainly because I feel absolutely sorry for my dog. His eating habits are the same and his behavior is normal, nothing has changed. He has began to rub at the bump with his paw, which he sometimes licks and then rubs. Any idea on what this bump on his nose can be? It looks as if it’s beginning to rot or dry up. Please, what could it be?

I agree with your vet. At your dog's age, the most likely reason for this bump is a histiocytoma which is a benign tumor. It will usually go away on it's own within a few months. It is up to you what you want to do. If you are worried, you can always have it surgically removed. If you are planning to have him neutered (which you should) they can do both procedures at the same time. ( https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4952066 ) Hope this helps. If you have more questions you can always opt for a private consultation where we can chat back and forth. That way you can ask as many questions as you'd like. Best wishes.
