Why is my 6-month-old cat squinting with a watery, goopy eye?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

My cat is about 6 months old. I noticed that her eye had some “goop” in it a few hours ago I gently took a tissue to the corner or her eye (On her fur) and got it out. Her eye seems to be watery and she keeps squinting her eye. I took a wet tissue and gently placed it on her eye to clear up some of the water so I could see her eye. She doesn’t seem to be acting weird or having any change in behavior.

When they squint the eye they do that because it’s painful; so she is in pain. Usually they squint because there has been an injury to the cirnea. I suggest you get her to the vet for an exam. Eyes are very delicate organs and can go from bad to worse quickly. I don’t think you need to rush her to the ER but try to get her in tomorrow to see your vet.
