My dog has red spots on legs after travel. Are they black fly bites?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 4 years and 4 months old | 80 lbs

Im traveling with my dog and cat. We stopped at a rest area in Arizona and maybe an hour or two later we stopped again and i noticed red spots all over my dogs legs and stomach area. It doesnt look like they both him and i think they are black fly bites. I was just hoping if i should be concerned about it. Its been a few hours and the red color is no longer prominent when i first saw them.

It does look like fly bites. If he isn't scratching or licking, then I think it is safe to just monitor. If they spread, seem to bother Duke, or if new areas show up, then I would have him checked out by a vet. The sudden onset is unlikely to be caused by something else, but these lesions can also appear with several different clotting disorders and it is always better to have it checked out by a vet.
