My puppy keeps licking her dry, flaky rectal area after spay. Why?

My puppy was desexed 5 days ago, since then she has not taken any notice of the wound but has been chewing/licking her rectal area. Anal glands were expressed but rectal skin is dry and flaky. What could this be caused from? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 6 months and 5 days old | 2.2 lbs

It’s possible the glands are inflamed from the expression. Or perhaps the rectum is irritated from the thermometer? Unfortunately it’s impossible to know without an examine. I recommend to call your veterinarian and tell them what is going on. They may recommend to start her on an additional anti-inflammatory, a fiber supplement or even another type of medication to address inflammation. I hope this helps.
