My budgie ate a caterpillar from an outdoor branch. Is it safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 25 days old

My budgie was playing with the gum tree branch I got h from outside when I noticed a small caterpillar no bigger then my fingernail on it. Not sure how many were there but if he did eat any is it of any concern? I know birds are omnivores.

Thanks for reaching out about Quiz and including photos. Most catepillars are not toxic but possibly irritating, resulting in vomiting. If Quiz appears normal, monitor for now. Seek a veterinary visit if Quiz appears lethargic or ill. Good luck.
