Hi, my kitten ate some baked beans around 20 minutes ago. I’ve read online that it can be poisonous. I don’t know what to do because the beans didn’t have xylitol in them. Is it worth taking him to the vet or will he be ok ?

Hello. I would not be concerned as long as the beans did not contain a significant amount of chopped/powdered onion or garlic. Onions & garlic can cause some problems in the blood & symptoms may not show for several days. You might see loss of appetite, depression, increased heart & breathing rate, weakness, jaundice ( yellow tinge to the skin & mucous membranes & a red to brown urine can occur. If Casper ate a small amount, like around 1/2 teaspoon, he will be fine. If he ate a substantial amount, you might need to take him to your vet quickly to have him cleaned out. But, a small taste is just fine. I hope Casper has no problems with this & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
