Bitten by dog, no rabies shot. Dog healthy after quarantine. Safe?

Hi, I was bitten by a dog about 45 days back and dog was quarantined for 10 days and came out healthy and alive but the rabies vaccine was not current. I did not take anti rabies shot. Should I worry if the dog is doing fine after 10 days quarantine? The dog is still doing fine after 45 days.

Thank you for reaching out to pet coach. Most likely you have nothing to worry about, however it is absolutely best to consult with an MD about the bite wound, the situation in which it occurred. Telling you that you have absolutley nothing to worry about would not be correct, an MD can only give this advice to you and that is the safest thing for you to do in this situation. Most likely there is no concern, but please consult with an MD to get the answers that you need to rest easy. Thank you.

    I am sorry to hear about your bite. I would definitely seek medical care and report the bite. What will happen will depend on regulations in your state/city/county but in general, a dog that is owned as a pet that has bitten someone will require a 10 day quarantine period to ensure it does not display any signs of rabies. If the dog is healthy throughout the quarantine then at the end of the 10 days they are vaccinated and released from quarantine. The quarantine may be required to be at a vet hospital or animal control, depending on the regulations in your area. I would also recommend having Marly examined by a vet to discuss reasons he may have bitten you and solutions that may be available. Best of luck to you and Marly.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. If the dog is up to date on its rabies vaccinations, the chance of you contracting rabies is incredibly low. What we recommend is to quarantine the dog who bit you (or have the owner of the dog quarantine it) for 10 days and monitor the dog for the development of any abnormal neurologic signs. If the dog is completely normal after 10 days from the time you were bit, you are in the clear. If the dog becomes sick at all in that time frame, or if you become sick at all, I recommend contacting your doctor. I hope this is helpful - best of luck!

Hello. If the puppy was perfectly healthy, not acting sick at all, especially anything that resembled strange neurological behavior, then no. Plus, since the puppy was born in foster care, unless there was a chance it was previously bitten by a wild animal, there is no way it could have contracted rabies. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! If your dog is vaccinated then he should be fine but I would have the rabies boostered. If your dog is over due then he should be boostered and put in a 6 month quarantine. If he is NOT vaccinated and the dog that bit him has been confirmed to be Rabies positive your dog should be euthanized. If you are not sure if the dog that bit him is truly positive for rabies then Bruno should be quarantined for 6 months. I wish you the best!

I adopted a 2 month old puppy .I don't know her origin or her history . she had her first vaccination a week back. today morning she bit me , a deep scratch and it seeped blood every 2-3 mine for a while. I cleaned it up immediately with antiseptic .
Hi, thanks for using PetCaoch! You should see a human doctor to determine if you need further medical care. We are veterinarians and are only allowed to treat animals. You should be up to date on tetanus. As for Rabies, as long as she hasn't been bitten in her life by an unvaccinated dog or wild animals it is unlikelyn she has rabies. In order for her to transmit rabies to you it would have to be in her salivary glands (infectious form) and she would show symptoms with in 10 days of biting you. If she is normal and not showing signs of Rabies at day 10 then she couldn't have give you rabies. i wish you the best.

Hello, and thanks for using Boop by Petco. The most important thing is that your dog was vaccinated for Rabies prior to this attack, and that you boostered his vaccine again afterwards. The rabies vaccine is quite effective, and boostering the vaccine after the attack will help in case one of the unvaccinated dog did have rabies. Ideally, it would be beneficial to observe all 3 dogs for 10 days after the attack, but you have done everything right with your own dog. If that third missing dog did have rabies and has since died, then the other two (unvaccinated) dogs would likely need to be euthanized, and your dog would need to be closely monitored for several months - but the risk of your dog contracting rabies with an up-to-date vaccination status is very very low. If you got bit by your neighbor's dog, I would recommend going to your doctor to have the wound evaluated. They are the only ones that can tell you if you need antibiotics. HI, thanks for using Boop by Petco! It means keep in the house and on a leash. Keep him away from animals and children. You just want to keep an eye on him and not expose him to anything that will make him get sick in the 10 day window that may confuse if he has Rabies or something else. Once the 10 days is up have him vaccinated and this won't be a worry any longer! Have a good day!

Hello. I’ve noticed that you have asked this question several times. If your pup showed no signs of illness during the 10 day quarantine, you and the puppy are not at risk. Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! It sounds like the bite wound has become infected. Bite wounds typically require the attention of a veterinarian. If the wound is deep enough, it may require stitches and prescription antibiotics if it is infected. Depending on your local animal control and rabies laws, your puppy may need a rabies vaccine now and then a booster in 6 months. I would be sure to have Puppy seen by a veterinarian right away so he can have this wound evaluated.
