My new rescue cat is distressed, banging head on door. How to calm?

Hi, I just adopted a rescue cat this afternoon and I have settled him to sleep with enough resources in the bathroom, but he is distressed and banging his head against the door. I am really worried about this behaviour and I dont know how to help him or make sure he is okay for the nigh. Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 5 years and 5 months old

If you have no other pets there is really no reason to keep him confined. He will be able to find the food/water/litter. So, if you want to let him out you can. This won't help you tonight but I suggest you get some Feliway diffusers/spray to use in the house - it should help him settle in better and calm him down.
