My dog is aggressive and biting roommates after moving. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 8 days old | 30 lbs

Hello, I recently moved into a house with roommates and brought my dog with me and he has been very on guard since arriving at the new house. He recently bit one of my roommates hands and he's never done that before. He then growled at anybody who isn't me. I'm curious about what to do.

I am sorry to hear about Haku. This is concerning behavior and I would highly recommend talking to Haku's veterinarian about getting a referral to a veterinary behaviorist https://www.dacvb.org/search/custom.asp?id=4709 or a reliable trainer in your area if a behaviorist is not available. This is very concerning behavior and once a dog bites someone we need to be aggressive in our action taken to prevent future incidents. The change could be due to changes in his living situaiton making him uncomfortable, hormonal changes as he reaches sexual maturity and is not neutered, or we can see aggression if a dog is feeling unwell due to illness or pain.
