Dog on enrofloxacin & terbutaline: diarrhea & fast heart rate normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 10 years and 1 month old | 20.5 lbs

My 21 lb dog was prescribed enrofloxacin. 68mg once every 12 hours. Is that the correct dosage? Its giving her diarrhea. She was also prescribed 2.5 mg of terbutaline and her heart is beating really hard and fast.

It’s a little high, but still within the safe and therapeutic range for the medication. A common side effect is diarrhea, sometimes a bland diet and probiotics will help. Elevated heart rate is common with terbutaline. I would call your vet or have Siya examined by an emergency vet to determine if the medication(s) should be stopped in light of her side effects.
