My cat had a seizure while sleeping. What caused it and is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 3 years and 6 months old | 10 lbs

I think my cat had a seizure, she was twitching, paddling, and her jaw kept snapping, she was drooling a lot too. It lasted about 30 seconds. Is it life threatening? She was just sleeping, what could've cause it? (She seems okay now just a little confused.)

Lots of things can seizures, including infection, kidney or liver disease, cancer, electrolyte abnormalities, hypoglycemia, epilepsy, among others. I would recommend that you have Pumpkin evaluates by a vet. They will discuss what happened and her medical history, and may recommend lab work to see if there is an identifiable cause.
