Why is my puppy shedding excessively and losing so much hair?

I am sorry to hear about your puppy. Many different things can cause hair loss, also known as alopecia, in dogs. Parasites of the skin such as mange mites and fleas can cause this. Bacterial or yeast infections of the skin can also be a cause, as well as some genetic disorders. I would recommend an examination at a veterinarian to determine the cause of the hairloss which will help guide treatment recommendations, which may include medication to treat for mange, antibiotics or medicated shampoos.

    Your puppy is likely starting to lose its puppy fur, and since you live in India, it is probably getting hot by now and the puppy sheds the hair due to the heat. Another reason for excessive shedding could be that she has mites or a fungal infection If the coat appears thin in places, if you see little skin defects, scaling or if your dog itches, she should be seen by a veterinarian for a skin exam. Mites are easily treated nowadays, and a fungal exam needs to be treated as well, as the fungus can be transferred to humans as well.

When dogs or puppies lose an excessive amount of hair, it can indicate there is a disease in the skin. Unfortunately there are many different diseases that will cause hair loss and it is impossible to know which one is the cause without an exam and some diagnostics. Skin mites, ringworm (which humans can get) and bacterial infections are all common causes of hair loss. Depending on the cause, there are medications and medicated shampoos which can help. I recommend to play it safe and have your puppy examined by the veterinarian. Feeding a good diet will help with coat health in general. The brand I recommend is Royal Canin. An omega-3 fatty acid supplement for pets will also be beneficial. Best of luck.

What are the reasons of hairfall?
Shedding is a normal process in most fur animals, puppies have a temporary coat that gradually changes until they are around 6 months of age. there could be many reasons for abnormal hairfall such as various skin diseases (parasites, infections, allergies) but hairfall is usually normal and seasonal.

Lucy's hair is falling consistently , what might be the cause ? And cure?
There are multiple possible causes for hair loss. Bacterial skin infection, skin mange, hormonal disease, genetic or from shedding. With the age of Lucy, I would recommend having her veterinarian examine her and do a skin scraping on her skin. This is a simple test thst entails using a scalpel blade to scrape the surface of the skin to see of there are skin mites present. This is a very good test to do and will not hurt Lucy. Once confirmed, the most appropriate treatment can begin. This may also be a bacterial skin infection called pyoderma, in which case an oral antibiotic and topical ointments are likely needed. Hello. Hair loss in a puppy can be a concern if it is excessive. The first thing we want to rule out is external parasites like fleas & mange mites ( Demodex & Sarcoptic ). Bacterial & yeast-based infections & allergies are also a possibility. You can bathe Blu in a flea shampoo to eliminate the possibility of fleas, but if she is intensely itchy & continues to lose hair, you will need to see your veterinarian for a diagnosis. I am sorry to hear about Andy! There can be a multitude of causes for hair loss in dogs. Parasites of the skin, such as fleas or mites, are one of the most common, particularly in young dogs. Infections of the skin with bacteria, yeast, or fungus, can also lead to hair loss. Allergies to food ingredients or environmental allergens, and endocrine disease can also lead to hair loss. I would recommend an exam at a veterinarian. They can look at the skin to see if there are signs of infection or parasites, which will help determine what the proper treatment will be. Luna is shedding a lot. Why might be the reason? What can I do to help reduce this?
Shedding excessively can have many reasons: 1) change of seasons...your dog sheds his summer hair to get a winter coat (this will depend on your climate) 2) food quality is not adequate 3) ectoparasites such as mange mites, demodex mites, fleas, ticks, etc. itch and the dog scratches excessively and loses a lot of hair 4) some dogs naturally shed more than others. 5) hormonal changes, e.g. your dog comes into heat. Females will shed their hair coat You can do the following: 1) feed a good quality complete commercial puppy food for large dogs 2) Check for ectoparasites and treat for them if present 3) Brush or comb your dog every day This should minimize the shedding.

At her age, mange is a possibility along with a flea allergy. They make prescription medication called nexgard or bravecto that will treat both. Make sure she stays clean and you do weekly baths in a medication shampoo as this can help if it is due to an infection.

Hair loss can be caused by bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection, dietary or environmental allergies or sensitivities, immune system disorders, or a combination of the above. I recommend making an appointment to have Toby seen by your veterinarian to help determine the cause of the hair loss as soon as you can. The vet will likely want to look at a sample from the area (taken by a procedure known as a skin scraping) and examined under the microscope to determine what kind(s) of infection may be present and to figure out what medication is appropriate for treatment.
