Is it normal for my cat to use the litter box while I'm cleaning it?

I am currently on vacation away from home so one of my friends drops by my house every day to feed my cats and clean the litterbox. He told me that my cat deliberately uses the litterbox when he goes to clean the litterbox. Is there a reason for this behaviour?

This is very common among cats. They can hardly wait for you to finish scooping before they're climbing in to leave another deposit. As long as he seems fine otherwise I don't think there is anything to worry about. Maybe he's showing off for his new friend.
