My cat died. How do I cope with the pain and grief of pet loss?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Ragdoll | Male | neutered | 9 years and 2 months old

Beethoven died yesterday at 9:44am I can’t get used to it and i can see him everywhere, i wish he could come back and start purring and dipping his face into my food like he used to, i want him to wake me up tomorrow at 8am like he always did. I want him to be here forever. I don’t think i will ever get used it. He was my 11th birthday present and now i’m 20 and i can’t fathom the idea of him not being here. I love you beethoven and i’ll do it forever.

Beethoven was a beautiful cat. I am so very sorry you lost him. It's hard but you eventually become accustomed to the difference and you'll remember the cute things he did and how much he loved you more than the pain of loss. I have been through it myself a number of times and will again, because I don't think I could ever be without a cat in my life. When you're ready, adopting another cat may help ease your sorrow and help you build new happy memories.
